Dinosaur Jr frontman J Mascis has teamed up with pedal makers Wren and Cuff to release the Garbage Face fuzz pedal.

The pedal is a recreation of Mascis’ main 1970s EHX Ram’s Head, which he’s been using since 1987. Wren and Cuff notes that the pedal is “not just any 70’s EHX Ram’s Head,” as the particular pedal that’s been recreated is an oddball unit with various incorrect parts, and others with values that have drifted far from their intended after nearly half a century of use.

Aside from the Muff circuit at its core, there’s also a germanium-transistor-powered treble boost circuit, which runs before the fuzz – allowing you to slam into the front end of the fuzz even harder. Alongside this, useful for solos or other volume-changing moments, there’s a second volume knob for the pedal’s overall output, accessible by a secondary footswitch.

Dinosaur Jr have been one of the most influential alternative rock bands of the 80s and 90s, with their feedback-heavy sound forming one of the founding pillars of the grunge movement. After a couple of lineup changes, the group disbanded in 1997. The original trio of Mascis, Lou Barlow and Patrick Murphy reformed in 2005 and have released four albums since. Their latest was 2016’s Give a Glimpse of What Yer Not.

The pedal lists for $349. For more information head over to wrenandcuff.com.
