The Vibrophase is all about textures. ZVEX’s new modulation unit may appear boring on paper—it’s a vibrato and phaser rolled into one—but listen to it in action and it’ll banish those thoughts from your mind.

Inspired by the eccentric pedal maker’s candle-powered Candela Vibrophase, this (much more sensible) stompbox uses a four-stage phaser to yield that vintage swirl, slow rotovibe tones, wide sweeps, far-out ‘slippiness’—and everything in-between.

You can control the wide spectrum of textures via five knobs. “Speed” and “Feedback” are pretty self-explanatory, while the “Vibrato/Phase” lets you sweep from one mode to the other. The “High Bias” and “Low Limit” knobs control the voltage and current going into the LED; with these, you’ll be able to control at which frequency band the phase sweep occurs. And as you’d expect from ZVEX, everything under the hood, save the “Speed” control, is analog.
