The late Australian rock legend Malcolm Young was best known for slamming on his very own battle-scarred Gretsch Jet, or as it was better known, “The Beast.” Paying tribute to the legend and his axe, Gretsch has announced the G6131T-MY Malcolm Young Signature Jet.

Distinguishable by its removed pickups and stripped-away finish, that guitar has produced some of the most iconic riffs ever heard. Just as Young had pried out two of three pickups on “The Beast,” this iteration of the Gretsch Jet features “DIY” pickup routes with simulated screwholes.

It’s also decked out with handsome chrome switch plugs, a Space-Control bridge and a ’60s-style tailpiece. Open cavities on this model’s chambered mahogany body—it has a thin-skin satin finish—make it an absolute screamer, and its roar is magnified by a high-output TV Jones Power’Tron bridge pickup.

Young is one of the best rhythm guitarists the world has ever seen, and Gretsch said that it is a “great privilege to pay fitting tribute to him with a finely crafted instrument bearing his name.”

Gretsch fans will recognize that this is actually the second axe produced in honor of the AC/DC icon, with the first being the luxurious Custom Shop Malcolm Young “Salute” Jet that came in a relic-ed finish.

The G6131T-MY Malcolm Young Signature Jet lists for $3,749, and will be available in November. More information at gretschguitars.com.
