Joyo has beefed up its R-series with the OMB (One Man Band) Looper and Drum Machine. With a host of looping and tempo features, this compact unit aims to make you the complete one-man band.

One of the main highlights of the OMB is its 40-minute looping capability, which allows you to craft long and complex compositions. These loops can be edited via the pedal’s unlimited overdubbing function – add additional layers that can be removed and reintroduced as you wish.

The OMB also houses a drum machine that serves up drum groove patterns from seven genres: pop, rock, blues, metal, punk, jazz and Latin. Each genre setting offers seven drumbeat presets, so if you do the math, there are 49 patterns to choose from.

Recorded loops will automatically sync to the selected presets, but you can also use the tap tempo function to further sculpt those backing beats.

The pedal can function in three modes: as an independent looper, a sole drum machine, or looper plus drum machine. You can toggle between the three modes via a mode selection switch.

Here are the rest of the OMB’s controls:

  • Looper knob: Sets the looper’s volume
  • Drum knob: Sets the drum machine’s volume
  • Genre knob: Selects from one of seven genres
  • Bar knob: Selects from one of seven drumbeat presets
