Calling all fans of sludgy, downtuned riffs. Mistweaver Effects, a new boutique pedal maker based out of Singapore, has launched its first stompbox—and it might be the bottom-heavy fuzz you’ve been looking for.

The Serpent is modeled after the vintage Green Russian Big Muff Pi, but with a few tricks for the modern player. Although the pedal has all the fat, smooth tones of the Sovtek original, its improved bass response means it excels at the feet of bassists and extended-range/downtuned guitarists, too.

Besides the usual “Tone,” “Gain” and “Volume” knobs, The Serpent has a “Contour” mini toggle that lets you switch between flat, scooped and boosted mids. So you’ll be able to dial in anything from engulfing doom atmospheres to garage-y riffs to searing solos that scythe through the mix. And it sounds just as gnarly on bass.

The Serpent lists for $140. More information at mistweaverfx.com.
