Mastodon will stream a live acoustic performance from an aquarium
Make sure to split your lungs with blood and thunder when you see… well, a white whale is probably unlikely.
Prog metal band Mastodon have announced that they will play a rare unplugged set at the Georgia Aquarium next month. The event will be live-streamed, so fans across the world will be able to tune in.
The performance is in partnership with the live stream platform Dreamstage. The performance will air at 9 PM ET / 6 PM PT, with both a performance and an interview with the band about their creative process planned for the day.
The performance will be available on-demand for 72 hours starting the day after the event (16 July), with anyone with a ticket able to tune in again during this replay window.
Fans on social media have been quick to point out the combination of Mastodon and aquatic life is a fitting one, with their breakout record, Leviathan being a concept album about Moby Dick. “No better opportunity will come for them to play Aqua Dementia,” wrote one fan on YouTube.
While the band don’t shy away from experimentation, this will be their first-ever acoustic performance, and (less surprisingly) their first performance in an aquarium.
