Rodrigo Y Gabriela recently unveiled an acoustic rendition of Metallica’s Battery. The acclaimed Mexican guitar duo’s laidback version of the thrash metal anthem will be included on their Mettal EP, to be released on 29 November.

Rodrigo Sánchez and Gabriela Quintero are no strangers to heavy metal – the two have included Battery in their live sets for many years. “Master of Puppets changed everything for us when we first heard it all those years ago,” Quintero said in an interview with Revolver published on 19 November. Other heavy metal acts that also inspire the duo include Slayer, Pantera, Sepultura and Testament.

The Mettal EP will also include covers of other heavy metal classics such as Megadeth’s Holy Wars… The Punishment Due and Slayer’s Seasons In The Abyss. The EP was mixed by Jim Monti, who worked on Slipknot, Metallica and Korn records, and mastered by Ted Jensen, whose studio credits include Bring Me The Horizon and Halestorm.

Mettal is limited to 2,500 pieces and will be available only at independent record stores. The EP is a companion piece to the duo’s recent album Mettavolution, which includes a rendition of Pink Floyd’s Echoes with a runtime of over 18 minutes. Find out more about Mettavolution in Guitar.com’s June interview with Rodrigo Y Gabriela.

Rodrigo Y Gabriela are currently on tour in the U.S., and will play the final show of the tour on 6 December in Miami Beach, Florida.
