ZVEX launches new Super Duper 2-in-1 mod

It’s meant to produce the doom-laden, 4/20-friendly, earth-shattering tones of the iconic Sunn Concert Bass amp.

Sunn is a brand of amplifiers so legendary that there’s even a band named after it. And for those who want to invoke Sunn O)))’s sludgy apocalypse through their guitars, ZVEX has a new(ish) Vexter Series pedal that does just that.

The boutique brand has modded its own Super Duper 2-in-1 boost pedal to mimic the Sunn Concert Bass solid-state amp, renowned among stoner and doom musicians for its low rumble and extreme distortion. ZVEX increased the sub-sonic frequency response on the Super Duper, and changed transistors to “give the instruments sharp teeth while still sounding organic,” according to the company.

But unlike the regular Super Duper, which packs two Super Hard On channels, the Concert Bass Mod only has one. That’s on the ‘red’ side of the stompbox, where you’ll find the “Crackle Okay” and “Master” knobs for gain and volume, respectively. The ‘yellow’ section of the pedal, on the other hand, is a new circuit that adds more crunch to your signal. It also slathers on even more bottom-heavy gain, leaving you with thicker distorted chords.
