With a repertoire of machine-like picking and nuanced phrasing, Martin Miller has become a force in the fusion genre. He was one of the artists Ibanez worked with to create the AZ series of guitars, which became the blueprint upon which the popular YouTuber’s very own signature MM1 was designed. We recently caught up with the Leipzig native to find out more about the very cool axe.

The guitar’s most eye-catching feature is, of course, its Transparent Aqua Blue finish. Explaining his choice of finish, Miller said, “It came down to 30 different colour designs and there were two that really sprung to my mind as being a possible signature colour: pink and blue. [In the end], I went with something that always works. Blue is my favourite colour.”

He also shared a fun fact about the blue veneer: “No camera ever captures it correctly. This is such a difficult colour to capture, so you really have to go out to see one for yourself!”

Miller also discussed his choice of dual humbuckers for the MM1. “For this stage in my life, it has to be a dual humbucker as I’m crossing between rock, fusion and jazz,” he said. “For rock, the bridge humbucker cuts it, [while] the neck pickup sounds cool for fast picking stuff. [The guitar also] has a dark, hollowbody jazz sound. It’s more mid-rangey, [like] something you’d hear from Pat Metheny.”
