John Petrucci has announced his Guitar Universe 3.0, a four-day event that focuses on guitar education and inspiration. It follows on from the guitarist’s previous two Guitar Universe events. It will cover everything guitar-related, from music theory to gear, with numerous masterclasses and performances taking place across the camp. The 2020 event will take place from 1 to 5 August 2020 in Hotel Irvine, Irvine, California.

Petrucci founded influential progressive metal band Dream Theater in 1985. Since its inception the band’s sound has been defined by impressive technical playing – and it’s clear John has a passion for inspirational musicianship. In a statement on the event’s website, he said: “A lot of being a guitar player can be a mystery. You might read something in a magazine or look at something on YouTube or attend a concert, but it’s not always graspable. If I picture myself as a 13-year-old, walking around with guys from bands I really looked up to, being able to hang out with them, ask questions, watch them play, learn how they do what they do, what an experience that would’ve been! It’s so cool for young people to experience something like this and see that it actually can be done.”

Guitar Universe 3.0 will feature appearances from Mateus Asato, Plini, Andy Wood, Jason Richardson, Joscho Stephan, Tom Quayle and Rena Petrucci.
