STL Tones reveals the Revenant preamp pedal

STL Tones has announced its first ever physical product – the Revenant preamp pedal, which has been created in conjunction with shred guitar colossus Andy James. STL is primarily known for its plug-ins and Kemper amp profiles, and while the joint venture with James and STL’s Italian partner Ignite Amps is new territory, it’s built on strong foundations.

It’s effectively a hardware follow-up to STL and James’ previous collaboration, the Tonality collection of plug-ins. And true to STL Tone’s software-based roots, the Revenant preamp is also available in an emulated form as part of this collection.

The majority of the controls are standard fare, with knobs for the four-band EQ, volume and gain of the circuitry on the face of the enclosure. A focus switch kicks the pedal into a more modern mode, tightening up chugs and adding an extra edge to leads.

While the sound of the pedal is geared towards the high-gain end of things, backing off either your guitar’s volume or the gain knob will lead to a more responsive, articulate overdrive that takes advantage of the preamp’s tube simulation.
