The 2019 reissue of Joe Satriani’s Surfing with the Alien will come with two LPs – one, the remastered original album in full, and the other a version of the album as ‘stripped’ backing tracks, with no lead guitar.

The reissue features slightly altered artwork, now featuring a silver guitar in place of the original album’s Silver Surfer. The double LP’s two disks are both coloured vinyl, one red and one yellow.

Surfing with the Alien, Satriani’s second record, was released in 1987, and went platinum five years later. The record contains two of the guitarist’s most well-known songs, Always With Me, Always With You, and Satch Boogie. The LP with the stripped-back tracks will allow listeners to hear the blank canvases that inspired the improvised solos on the record – which is great news if you want to try your hand at improvising in the same way.

The reissue will be available in select stores for Record Store Day Black Friday 2019, happening on 29 November. More information at Recordstoreday.com. For more music news, click here.
