Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour has paid tribute to Syd Barrett by covering two of the singer-songwriter’s solo songs during a lockdown performance.

He covered his former Pink Floyd bandmate’s tracks as part of his and his family’s weekly Von Trapped Family livestream series. In the episode, Gilmour covered two songs composed by Barrett: Octopus and Dominoes. Gilmour also shared some personal anecdotes about Barrett and their time working together. Take a look above.

The live stream sessions were initially established to promote his wife Polly Samson’s new book Theater for Dreamers, however they’ve now become more free-form, with Gilmour’s family chatting with fans and answering questions, as well as singing songs, reading poetry and drinking wine.

Octopus featured on Syd Barrett’s 1970 album The Madcap Laughs, while Dominoes appeared on Barrett, released later that year.

The band has also recently started weekly concert streams, taking place each Friday. The first was the 1995 classic Pulse show.
