Genesis’ Steve Hackett’s American tour, which saw him play the band’s ‘73 LP Selling England by the Pound in full, has been cut short by the coronavirus pandemic. Many of the dates have been delayed until 2021, but until then Hackett has brought fans a series of stripped-back performances of some Genesis classics.
The series of YouTube videos are all short instrumental performances, showcasing the songs’ complex guitar parts in nylon-strung clarity. Take a look at an extended version of the introduction section of Blood on the Rooftops below.
Hackett’s tours of Japan, Australia and New Zealand have also been delayed, but a September European tour is still on the books. This will feature a front-to-back performance of the 1977 Genesis album Seconds Out. The US tour has been rescheduled for April 2021.
Hackett is one of many musicians to bring fans stripped-back, home-recorded performances in lieu of touring, as the coronavirus pandemic continues to cancel countless shows and festivals.
